Easter Sunday Musings

Without one major theme for this blog today, I decided to call it Easter Sunday Musings. There is no discussion about Chocolate, Religion or even rabbits, so the title might be slightly dishonest. Small bits about a few things that are going on or have been going on.

Yesterday was an awesome day. I booked tickets a while ago for the St. Georges Day game of Rugby at Twickenham. The game was London Wasps v Bath Rugby. I decided to go to this for two reasons – the first being that the first game of rugby that I went to watch was Bath and secondly, I wanted to go watch another game at Twickenham. Travelling up to London on a nice day is always a bonus although when we got into London the climate (so to speak) changed from nice and warm to muggy. Getting to Twickenham is a piece of piss really from Waterloo. I haven’t gone to Twickenham via train since 2008 when I went to see Iron Maiden there. This was different however as the crowd arrived for the Maiden gig in drips and drabs (if memory serves – I don’t remember it being that busy) but yesterday there were massive crowds all walking with the same purpose – to enjoy a game of Rugby in the sun. One thing I love about Rugby is mixing fans. As we walked into the stadium, we engaged in a bit of banter with a Wasps fan, which was all fun. Try doing that at a football game and you’ll likely be picking your teeth off the floor – why is that? Anyway, the view from the seats was rather good (made even better somehow knowing that the tickets with booking fees cost about £17.50).

Reading the programme on the way home was quite entertaining as it made reference to last year’s St. Georges Day game where Bath won 35-19 and how that was a massive blow to the team. If that was a massive blow, then I hate to think what yesterday’s game will do to the London Wasps. Bath started off really well and got a try within the 4th minute. A conversion just after and Bath were 7-0 up really early. I’m not going to discuss all the points in detail (there are match reports for that) but at half time, Bath went in 29-3 up which is a commanding half time lead. There was a bit of controversy over one of the second half try’s for Bath (which required the use of the video ref). It was given as a try but I’m pretty certain that it was not, Dave was pretty certain that it wasn’t a try and the Wasps fans around us were in disbelief it was given. Another example of opposition fans just chatting about a decision in the game without reverting to calling the referee, or each other, wankers. Quite nice really. The final score was 43-10. As a side note, the try that London Wasps scored was immense (run from the half way line to score). Great game and Bath were the deserved winners I think. Really glad I decided to go to the game and I can’t wait to go back on the 28th May for the Aviva Premiership Final. With any luck, Bath will be there but I’m not that hopeful.

Speaking of rugby, I have been debating whether to try and go watch Bath one more time this season at their home ground. Every time I’ve looked, tickets have sold out really fast so I promised myself if I had the chance this season, I’d do all I could to go. Sure enough that chance arrived for the game on the 7th May. Now, I already have plans for the evening of the 7th May in Southampton (going to see Ginger, the front-man of The Wildhearts, do an acoustic set). So the day will involve a jaunt from home to Bath Spa station. I’m reliably informed the Recreation ground is pretty close to the station, and I hope that this is true. After the game I’m off to get a train from Bath to Romsey. Romsey is a grim place if memory serves. I seem to recall it’s like Petersfield. Anyway, change in Romsey to get to the Talking Heads, and then the gig. Trying to work out whether wearing a Bath Rugby shirt that day is a good idea or not – it’s quite a thick shirt and that could be a bad move for a gig. Anyway, I’m seeing two more games of rugby this season and I cannot wait. I honestly think I’ll probably go and watch Bath more next season than I will Pompey – unless Bath raises their prices as well and then I’ll just be pissed off!

It wouldn’t really be a blog on this website without some form of mention about live music. This Easter weekend of fun continues with a gig tonight at the Wedgewood Rooms to support the cause of Diabetes. I have friends who play in The Founders Of and Toxic Shock, both of whom are playing tonight. There is a headline band called Hairforce 5, but I know nothing of them. Tempted truthfully to give them a miss and just head home. Saves money that way and also will mean I won’t have a hangover on my bank holiday Monday. Speaking of gigs at the Wedgewood Rooms though, Skindred who were due to play the Pyramids in Portsmouth have had their gig moved to the Wedgewood Rooms. That does surprise me as I’d have thought they’d have no trouble selling out Pyramids but the fact they sold less than 400 (which it had to be for it to be moved to the Wedge) is quite surprising. However, I’m really happy about the move as in 2010, Skindred were awesome at the Wedge and I can’t wait to see them destroy the dancefloor there again.

Since my last blog, I have purchased Football Manager 2011. I never realised how much I missed playing a game of some description until I bought this game. My Xbox went down quite a long time ago and instead of getting it fixed – I accepted it was unlikely to survive much longer after getting fixed and so I gave up on it. Playing FM2011 has been fun and after a few shit starts to seasons, I’ve created a game where I am managing Tottenham and have lead them to two Premiership titles, an FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield and Final/Semi-Final of the Champions League. It is a lot of fun to chop and change the squad, in preparation for another assault on the biggest European prize. In fact, once I have finished writing this, I will be heading back virtual sheepskin jacket and dugout. Although it is pre-season at the moment so probably not so much of the dugout.

Finally, is anyone else fucking sick of this debate over AV? I just wanted to express my apathy with both sides of the campaign. Yes to AV people are just attacking the Conservatives (and other supporters) and likening them to the BNP and Communist Party’s (strange how they can be like both of those parties) and the No to AV people are arguing about the cost. It is such a shit argument from both campaigns. The main argument for AV as far as I can see is the eventual winner of a vote must receive 50% of the votes in their constituency. The main argument for First Past The Post is that the candidate who wins the most votes in a constituency wins. Why people needed to resort to cheap arguments to get their point across is beyond me (although not uncommon in politics sadly). The advert for the No to AV campaign with the horse race was very simplistic but it worked. I think I am voting No to AV but that’s because I don’t see how changing the voting system will really benefit the country. If there are constituencies that are safe seats under FPTP, then chances are they probably still will be pretty safe under AV. It is only the swing voter seats that make things interesting under an AV system, but then they also can make things interesting under a FPTP system. I just don’t see how someone can claim they won 50% of the vote if they had to rely on 2nd choice votes to get past the 50% mark. I also think it is interesting that no-one has mentioned that regardless of the voting system, there are still about 30% of the voting population that don’t vote, sometimes more. No-one is talking about how to reach out to these people but how to make the layout of parliament ever so slightly more representative of the voting population. Just as a side note, I think it is hilarious that there are members of the Labour party strongly behind the Yes to AV campaign. In their 1997 manifesto, they promised proportional representation which obviously never materialised when they won the majority that they did. They then had 13 years to introduce a change to the voting system, yet somehow never found the time. Now they are out of power, FPTP is undemocratic and awful, and the Conservatives support of it just proves they are outdated as a party...really?! That’s just embarrassing, Labour.

Also, I just saw this picture about AV which made me chuckle:

That’s all I have for this one. Like I said at the top, bits and bobs. No real main topic but sometimes it’s hard to find a topic worth writing about (or a topic that I can write about well enough to do it justice). I will probably post a blog soon with reviews of tonight’s charity gig as well as Skindred. After that it will probably be after May 7th, with stories of the day of win and the election/referendum. It’s all over soon!

Sonisphere Equals Good

I always get a little excited about announcements for festivals I’m going to. While I do like the random announcements that Wacken seems to do – the hyped up announcements that the UK festivals seem to do always excites me. I found out over the last weekend that a Sonisphere announcement was coming this week and I was very happy about that as it had been a while since we had an announcement and the lineup is already looking awesome. The only thing which I wasn’t 100% about was when this week the announcement was coming. I had seen a couple of self confirmations pop up over the last week – both of which I liked as they were good bands. I saw another self confirmation this morning which I loved as it was a band I’ve not seen before. I figured the announcement was coming soon when this morning’s self confirmation happened – and sure enough it was revealed it was coming at 3pm. Before this announcement, I found out the sad news that Devildriver are no longer playing Wacken as they are planning to tour the US during this time. I can’t say I overly like this excuse but I did wonder why they had seemingly not booked any other euro festival spots (Trivium haven’t, but they are a Euro festival exclusive for Wacken – Devildriver didn’t seem to be a euro exclusive). A shame, but no matter – the chance to see them will come again I’m sure. Hopefully they’ll come to Portsmouth or Southampton on their next UK tour – we’ll see. Anyway, this is about Sonisphere and bands that are playing, not Wacken and bands that aren’t. 3pm rolled around, and I was amazed once again – not only at how good Sonisphere was, but how it managed to improve with each lineup. Anyway, the bands that were announced are:

Apollo Stage:

Bad Religion – Pretty good announcement. Don’t know much by them, but I like what I’ve heard.

Cavalera Conspiracy – Win! I’ve wanted to see these guys live as I liked their first album. I missed them at RaR08 so I could get a spot for RATM. I think that’s what happened anyway. Still, genius announcement.

Sylosis – Impressive to see these guys on the main stage having seen them be announced for smaller stages so far. Will definitely check them out if there is not a clash.

Saturn Stage:

Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine – What an announcement! The last two years I’ve not really cared for the “novelty” announcement, but this is superb (I don’t know if this is considered the novelty announcement but for me it is). I really want to see Richard Cheese live so this will be a treat.

Bohemia Stage:

The Answer – Big announcement from Sonisphere. Surprised they aren’t on one of the open air stages but no problem. If there is no clash then I’ll be watching them.

Cancer Bats – Awesome announcement. Love this band and really want to see them live again. If the chance arises, I shall.

My Passion – They aren’t for me truthfully. But liking every band at a festival would be a nightmare!

Kylesa – They sound fairly decent. Don’t think I’ll get the chance to see them if the poster is right though as they’d be clashing with Volbeat. A shame, but no matter

Pulled Apart By Horses – These guys seem really quite good. Hopefully will be able to get to see these guys.

Hayseed Dixie – Fantastic announcement. I see they are playing on the Friday and I hope they are not clashing with Metallica as that would just suck. But I definitely want to see them again.

Paradise Lost – Were genius when they opened the Saturn stage on the Sunday of 2009. Really enjoyed their set and will strive to see them again this year if time allows.

Red bull Bedroom Jam Stage:

Rolo Tomassi – Not bad at all. Probably will give them a miss at the festival but if there is nothing on when they are on, then I’d go check them out.

Tek One – Nothing on Spotify so no comment!

TesseracT – They sound really good.

Arcane Roots – See Tek One!

Me Vs Hero – They seem pretty good. I’m sure they are supporting Skindred though so I’ll probably catch them there.

Jagermeister Stage:

Anterior – See Tek One!

Amplifier – They seem alright. Not all that bothered about seeing them though.

Demonic Ressurection – Seem pretty good. Will try to catch if the time allows.

Orange Goblin – Brilliant band who I’ve managed to miss live so many times. I must try to see them at least once. Maybe this’ll be my chance? Who knows!

Saint Jude – They seem pretty good. Wouldn’t mind checking them out if I had nothing to do.

Hounds – Don’t think they are on Spotify. On a side note, there are a lot of backing bands who use the name Hounds!

The Crave – They seem pretty good.

Jettblack – They seem pretty good.

The Virgin Marys – They don’t personally do a lot for me.

So out of that entire list, there are only 2 really who I wouldn’t bother going to see if time allowed. There are quite a few (at the smaller end) who I’ve never heard of who I’d go and see if time allows. Such is the way of a festival like Sonisphere – sometimes time will allow and sometimes it won’t. That isn’t always such a bad thing. Anyway, this announcement wasn’t all about the bands – it was also about some stage splits. By my estimations, the main stages look full now. Actually, if last year’s poster is anything to go by, there are a couple more bands on the main stage this year than last. I’m ok with that. Anyway, here is the new look poster.

Sonisphere looks awesome this year. Everyone has their own personal tastes when it comes to music and once again, Sonisphere has covered almost every area of my music tastes with this festival. I’m not sure how many more bands are to be announced but if someone who ran the festival turned round tomorrow and said “unless someone pulls out, this is it” then I’d be more than happy with the fact I have a ticket to this festival. What I am going to do now is look at the day splits and list the bands I would see or would like to see on each day.

Friday: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Diamond Head. Killing Joke, Hayseed Dixie and Firewind.

Not many bands there but there aren’t that many playing on the Friday by the looks. And truthfully, I’m not that bothered about there being too many great bands on the Friday because I’d like to see all the Big Four. I do want to see Hayseed though, so if they clash with anyone other than Metallica, I have a tough choice to make.

Saturday: Biffy Clyro, Weezer, Bad Religion, Cavalera Conspiracy, Sylosis, All Time Low, Sum 41, Gallows, Richard Cheese, Paradise Lost, Gojira, One Minute Silence, Pulled Apart By Horses.

Might be quite surprising to see me put Biffy Clyro in that list considering I have openly said I’m not bothered about seeing them. Truthfully, I’m not – they are supporting Foo Fighters the week before Sonisphere and I will see them then. Anyway, if there is nothing else on which takes my fancy then I will see Biffy. I’m hoping I’ll be able to see all of these bands but realistically, I’m going to have to make some tough clash decisions.

Sunday: Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Motorhead, Arch Enemy, Volbeat, Bill Bailey, Opeth, Airbourne, In Flames, House of Pain, Black Tide, The Answer, Four Year Strong, Cancer Bats, Alestorm, Fozzy.

Sunday is the band heavy day for me. There is a lot that I want to see and I’m hoping the stage times will work out so I can see all that I have to see. Really the main 3 bands for me on Sunday are Slipknot, Volbeat and Fozzy. I’m hoping that none of those 3 clash with each other (and obviously Volbeat and Slipknot won’t) otherwise I’ll be fuming!

Unknown day: Title Fight, Watain, Orange Goblin, Saint Jude, The Treatment.

Not a great lot of bands there but I’m expecting that list to get bigger with more bands being announced for the two smaller outdoor stages plus the addition (if it is here this year) of the Strongbow Bowtime Bar Stage. Plenty more to get excited about when it comes to Sonisphere 2011. I’m just really happy I have a ticket and cannot wait to go back to Knebworth for another weekend of awesomeness it would seem.

Roll on July 7th.

30 Day Song Challenge

I decided to do one of those 30 days song challenges which I’ve seen pop up on Facebook, Twitter and various blogs. However, no sooner had I made the decision did I also remember the disaster that was the 365 project of 2011 – it didn’t happen. Despite having the time off work to make sure I posted a song for the next week or so, I know me well enough to know I’d forget to do a day and then abandon the whole thing. So, still wanting to do this, I was somewhat stuck. Then, when searching for the complete list, I stumbled across a blog where the writer was exactly like me – wanted to do it but knew they’d forget. They solved the issue by doing it all on one blog post. I liked this idea and therefore have decided to shamelessly rip it off. I can’t even credit the blog or the writer because I can’t find it again. Anyway – Each song will have a link (either YouTube or Spotify) and a little blurb.

Day 01 - Your favourite song - Metallica - Master of Puppets

The video I’ve chosen is one of Metallica playing the song live at Rock AM Ring 2008. This is my favourite song because I still get goose bumps hearing it live and it was one of the first Metallica songs I ever heard.

Day 02 - Your least favourite song - The Killers - Mr Brightside

Everyone has their reasons for not liking bands and songs. I have my reasons for not liking this. It reminds me of a very low time in life.

Day 03 - A song that makes you happy - Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

I could have used this song so many times throughout the course of this list. The video is very strange but also very funny. This reminds me of an awesome scene in Scrubs and it’s just a good song.

Day 04 - A song that makes you sad - Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven

This is an amazing song, but it makes me sad because it reminds me of people that I’ve lost. It is one of those which I would listen to so much more if it didn’t make me feel sad. Everyone who I know who has seen this song performed live has said that no-one in the room wasn’t crying at the end of it, and I think that really says something about the emotion in this song.

Day 05 - A song that reminds you of someone - Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man

This reminds me of Rock AM Ring 2008, and the look on Dave’s face when Steriogram started playing this as he knew this song but didn’t know it was them (I think that is right).

Day 06 - A song that reminds of you of somewhere - Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name

This reminds me of the Rage Against The Machine victory party in Finsbury Park, London. That was a cool day and the atmosphere was just electric

Day 07 - A song that reminds you of a certain event - Europe - The Final Countdown

This reminds me of Sonisphere 2010. There were so many great moments from this festival and I could have chosen many songs to fill this space, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd react to a song the way that crowd reacted to The Final Countdown. It was amazing and they were awesome live.

Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to - Nine Inch Nails - Starfuckers Inc

I remember when I first went to go see NIN; I maybe knew 10 of their songs, possibly less. But I remember thinking those songs were amazing and at the time, this was my favourite NIN song. It isn’t now but it’s still pretty damn good. I miss NIN live

Day 09 - A song that you can dance to - Prodigy – Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix)

I have no idea how many times I have danced to this song but it is a lot. Ah alcohol, my old companion. Anyway, this is a genius song but there were a lot that could have gone in this place, mainly from Pendulum or Prodigy

Day 10 - A song that makes you fall asleep - Crosby, Still, Nash & Young - Our House

This makes me think of Only Fools and Horses. But I have also fallen asleep while listening to this before. Hey, it’s a really good easy listening song!

Day 11 - A song from your favourite band - Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls

I couldn’t put Master of Puppets again, and when pushed for a 2nd favourite Metallica song, it is very tough. However listening to this made me remember all over again how good this song is. It might not always be no.2 for me, but it would definitely make my top 5 Metallica songs every time.

Day 12 - A song from a band you hate - Wicked Wisdom - Bleed All Over Me

Download 2006 was the first festival I went to. I wanted Download 2005 to be that one but hey, we can’t go back in time so that’s a missed chance. Anyway, walked into the arena and didn’t really know any of the bands that were on, so headed towards main stage when Wicked Wisdom were on...

Day 13 - A song that is a guilty pleasure - Miley Cyrus - Party In The USA

If ever there was a definition of a guilty pleasure, I’d imagine this being it. Still, Miley Cyrus’s music is damn catchy.

Day 14 - A song that no one would expect you to love - Notorious BIG (Feat Nelly, P.Diddy, Avery Storm, Jagged Edge) - Nasty Girl

This is catchy as all hell. I have no idea how I stumbled across this song but it is pretty damn awesome. I don’t talk much about my liking of rap/hip-hop music but I do like some. This is one of the ones I do like.

Day 15 - A song that describes you - Weird Al - Fat

Who said having low self esteem can’t be funny? I really couldn’t think of anything for this, and then as if like magic, this came on shuffle. It seemed too perfect. Speaking of which, I’m hungry...

Day 16 - A song that you used to love but now hate - Head Automatica - Beating Hearts Baby

If I was doing this in 2005, this would be the song I’d choose for “Song I’d Dance To” but as its 2011 and its been played so much the very thought of it makes me want to cleanse my ears with barbed wire, I think it’s fitting that it goes here.

Day 17 - A song that you hear often on the radio - Meredith Brooks – Bitch

I listen to Radio 2 at work, and every so often this makes the week’s playlist so it gets played quite a lot. I like this song so when that happens, I’m pleased. Radio 2 generally plays pretty good music, but this is a standout good song for me.

Day 18 - A song that you wish you heard on the radio - Stone Sour - Made of Scars

Probably my favourite song by one of my favourite bands. I’d like to hear this on the radio more. In fact anything by Stone Sour wouldn’t be objected to.

Day 19 - A song from your favourite album - Nine Inch Nails – Heresy

Having thought about it, I’d say The Downward Spiral is probably my favourite album in its entirety, and this is probably my favourite song from it.

Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry - Slipknot – Surfacing

How could it be anything other than this? Fuck it all, fuck this world, fuck everything that you stand for...etc.

Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy - Nirvana – Lithium

This is just a good song which has an upbeat feel to it. Whether I’ve completely misinterpreted that I don’t know, but that’s what I get out of it.

Day 22 - A song that you listen to when you’re sad - Ginger - Only a Problem

I listen to this song when I’m feeling blue for a number of reasons, but the main one is that no matter what is happening in your life, it is only a problem. There is a solution to all problems and when you look at it that way, then anything is only a problem. And this makes me feel better about stuff that gets me down. Usually this is the first song on when I’m getting in from work these days!

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding - Volbeat - I Only Want To Be With You

Having gone through a whole heap of emotional songs to put here, I ended up with a cover song. This version is awesome and the original is also damn good. Why not!

Day 24 - A song that you want to play at your funeral - 3 Doors Down - Here Without You

I first heard this song when it was used in a tribute video to Eddie Guerrero. Eddie was one of my favourite wrestlers and I was very upset (like many other fans) when he died, especially as he had got his life back on track, having wrestled with demons for a long time. Anyway, I heard this song set to the clips of Eddie and it made it all real. This song is about losing someone, and this is what I’d choose as a song for my funeral.

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh - The Lancashire Hotpots - He's Turned Emo

This is just amazing, especially when set to Lego

Day 26 - A song that you can play on an instrument - Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water

Who can’t play this song?! I could have used a lot more that I used to be able to play but I haven’t seriously picked a guitar up in a long time. Still, it was either this or Survivor – Eye of the Tiger.

Day 27 - A song that you wish you could play - The Wildhearts - Caffeine Bomb

I love the riff in this song, and the two times I have seen it live, I have loved it then. There are so many Wildhearts songs I’d love to be able to play myself but this is the top of that list. A close second is Vanilla Radio.

Day 28 - A song that makes you feel guilty - Limp Bizkit - Rollin'

I love this song, especially when inebriated. When I saw them at Sonisphere 2009, it was great. However it makes me feel guilty as I had a very bad mindset when I was 13/14. I wanted nothing more than to be accepted by people who I now see were utter cunts. I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s ever been in that situation. Anyway, long story short – I disliked anything to do with what was perceived as “grunger” music. I’d never heard any of it; I just hated it because these people did. I lost a very close friend at the time due to my pig-headedness at this time. I’ve since buried the hatchet with this person but I acted like a complete cunt. This song in particular makes me feel guilty about the whole ordeal because not long after the whole incident went down, Limp Bizkit released Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water – and I actually listened to it and liked it. My genuine reaction was that liking it was a bad thing. I realised very quickly that it wasn’t and I got into other bands, some of whom are represented on this list. But the damage was done with that person. Like I said, we have buried the past, but I was a right arsehole and despite liking this song, I do feel very guilty. (Slight essay there but no matter).

Day 29 - A song from your childhood - The Real Thing - You To Me Are Everything

I remember this always being on the radio in the car when going anywhere with my parents when I was young. I also remember them playing a gig at Portsmouth Guildhall which was awesome. Well, that bit was, there was another act (I think called Shalamar) who was alright...but I slept through the rest! Hey, I was only 8 (or something like that).

Day 30 - Your favourite song at this time last year - Rammstein - Waidmanns Heil

Rammstein released this album either at the tail end of 2009, or in 2010. I don’t remember now but what I remember is 2010 being the year I finally saw Rammstein live. This song stands out in my mind as being awesome. I would also like to stress that I have no idea what this video is, but it contains the best quality version of the song so I chose it.

That’s all 30 days complete. That was fun, and I got to listen to a great deal of awesome music while writing it.

WWE Wrestlemania XXVII: Live

I've done a couple of blogs about Wrestling in the past and as its Wrestlemania, I thought I would write some thoughts as the show is going on. So these are those thoughts.

Wrestlemania 27 – live thoughts
• The intro video when I’m watching a live show always brings out the old school wrestling fan in me. Hearing John Cena’s voice though in place of Jim Ross’s...urgh

• “If you smell, what the Rock is cooking!” Already pumped!

• Wrestlemania probably isn’t bigger than Christmas...just sayin’

• 15mins in and there has been a pretty cool promo, and now a video package about Wrestlemania. Will there be any matches tonight?

• Found out Sheamus/Daniel Bryan was taken off the mania card. Hope that wasn’t to accommodate The Rocks opening promo

• Now that is a fireworks spectacle. Jack Donaghy, take note!

• The first match is for the World Heavyweight Championship? Well that was unexpected

• Del Rio just had the taste slapped out of his mouth! Damn

• Brodus Clay is harnessing the energy of King Kong Bundy with this look. Either that or he ate King Kong Bundy...

• Damn, that was an awesome kick. Good work Del Rio.

• Edge retains. Pretty good opening match. Still not sure why it was the opening match but oh well, I’d say about 7/10

• Why did Edge just elbow drop a car?

• It might be slightly more believable that Cody Rhodes’s face was disfigured if his mask wasn’t see-through. Speaking of masks, Rey’s looks silly.

• Oh shit! Cody Rhodes mask has come off and....he looks the same as normal!

• Damn, some awesome kicks from Rey there.

• Cody Rhodes picks up the win in this one. I would have expected that match to have a faster pace than it did but it was still a good one. 7/10 again I’d say.

• Snoop!

• William Regal rapping might be one of the best things ever. The rest of this segment has been pretty wank though. Khali shouldn’t do anything, ever.

• 8 man tag match?! Smoke break!

• Oh, it finished during the smoke break. Awkward. Well, Big Show won with the knockout punch, so that makes the match worth at least a 4. But that is all!

• Why was Santino on Wrestlemania but not Bryan Danielson? (Daniel Bryan...whatever!)

• Ha! The Rock and Mae Young...pretty win

• Rock and Stone Cold! Oh god! Old school fan is going nuts!

• Come on CM Punk! (Am I doing it right?)

• CM Punk is the classic asshole heel, superb.

• A close up of Randy Orton’s eyes in HD was scary.

• Ha! Punk laughing at Orton’s knee injury was awesome.

• Mid air RKO! First real “Holy shit” spot ofmean the night. Randy Orton picks up the win in by far the best match of the night so far. It had almost everything. 9/10

• Mean Gene and Pee Wee Herman! Win! Mean Gene in Cena merch though, not so win.

• Aside from HBK and Sunny, this class of Hall of Fame inductees is pretty weak. Speaking of HBK, here he comes. I’m sad he’s gone from wrestling but glad at the same time that he retired from active competition and stayed retired. Unlike some (*cough*RIC FLAIR*cough*)

• And now for arguably the best match on the card from a pure wrestling stance, Michael Cole vs The King.

• J.R! Good to see him back. Please come back full time!

• Oh for fucks sake! What in the hell is Michael Cole wearing!

• I gotta get me one of those Quad bikes. Also, Austin is here! Good times

• Michael Cole is getting his ass kicked! This is one of the best things ever!

• “I thought Michael Cole was going to suck it up once in his life”. I’m sure he’s sucked it more than once...oh wait. BUSINESS!

• Are the crowd chanting boring? They wouldn’t be wrong

• Oh for fucks sake Cole! Don’t get your nipples out!

• Who throws in the towel anymore anyway?

• DO YOU GIVE UP? Austin as a guest referee is awesome

• Jerry The King Lawler wins. Hardly a surprise but nice to see Michael Cole getting his ass kicked.

• Booker T did a spinaroonie and then got stunned. Nice work.

• Jerry Lawler disqualified? Oh man this is lame. Bullshit chants justified. No score for this match now cause that was just bollocks.

• King and JR for the rest of the show? I like this

• Nice bit of Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls. I like it.

• HHH’s ring attire was pretty cool (assuming it was him wearing that mask)

• HHH is kicking Taker’s ass! It is early days but I didn’t expect that

• Taker flying over the top rope never fails to impress me. Holy shit is right fans

• Belly to belly through the table by HHH! Another Holy Shit!

• This match has been so win. Taker has kicked out of two pedigrees so far. HHH has kicked out of a tombstone and a last ride (unlike Wrestlemania X7)

• Taker just kicked out of a third pedigree! What the shit!

• Fucking hell! Taker has now kicked out after receiving a tombstone and many chair shots.

• And here comes the sledgehammer...

• Hells Gate! And HHH dropping the sledgehammer was symbolic of him losing.

• Undertaker wins! 19-0! I think we all knew realistically this was going to happen but my word what a match. Excellent ending as well. Slapping on Hells Gate out of desperation and forcing HHH to tap. 10/10!

• Taker looked really hurt after that one. Can’t say I’m surprised. Don’t think there was anything kayfabe about him being stretchered out.

• What’s that? Mixed tag match? You know, my bladder needs emptying.

• Trish though, still gorgeous.

• WWE Title match now, and with the champion coming out first, you know that The Miz is not leaving champion. Which means John Cena will. Oh bollocks

• A choir? That’s different

• This main event has been pretty boring thus far. Also , I’m getting pretty tired

• Mix kicked out of the AA. Then I blinked and apparently missed a few big moves and then there was a double count out. What a shit end.

• The Rock! What’s he going to do?

• Restart the match? Damnit Rock!

• He is The Miz, and he is Awesome! (thanks to The Rock!)

• And now, the most electrifying move in sports entertainment! To the Miz! Why not?

• That main event was a bit of a cluster fuck, but hey, Cena didn’t leave as Champ, The Rock laid some Smackdown and all is right in the Wrestling world. 5/10. Boring until the Rock came in. True story

• I need some fucking sleep now! Wrestlemania, you were good.

Overall Thoughts:

Well, it wasn’t the best Wrestlemania I’ve ever seen but it certainly wasn’t the worst. I think they boobed by not having Sheamus v Daniel Bryan on the card. The match of the night was clearly HHH v Undertaker. Even though we all expect Taker to keep his streak alive at WM, it’s nice to see a match which makes you second guess that thought. I second guessed it a lot and was genuinely happy to see Taker retain the streak (19-0). I don’t understand why the World Heavyweight Championship match was first considering some of the matches that followed it on the card (I’d have put the 8man tag match first or Cody Rhodes v Rey Mysterio). Some of the backstage stuff was funny but some was a real waste of time. Most of the Snoop Dogg segment was a bit shit, but The Rock and Steve Austin meeting was awesome. The main event was boring up to and including the double countout. The Rock restarting the match then costing Cena the title saved it for me, but it was still a bit of a cluster fuck main event. Nice to see The Miz get the People’s Elbow at the end, and I think this sets up The Rock v John Cena at Summerslam. I’m not sure how I feel about that one to be perfectly honest. My main problem with Wrestlemania this year is aside from The Rock at the end, it kind of went out on a whimper. I would have made Undertaker v HHH main event, because it was in my eyes.

WHC: Edge retains over Alberto Del Rio (7/10)
Cody Rhodes defeats Rey Mysterio (7/10)
8 man Tag Match (4/10)
Randy Orton defeats CM Punk (9/10)
Jerry Lawler v Michael Cole (3/10 – was awesome to see Cole get his ass kicked but what a bullshit ending)
The Undertaker defeats HHH (10/10)
Mixed Tag Team Match (?)
WWE Title: The Miz retains over John Cena (5/10)
